Pharmapack Awards 2024 - Celebrating Packaging and Drug Delivery Innovation
The 2024 Pharmapack Innovation Awards ceremony celebrated the best in pharmaceutical packaging and drug delivery innovation at all levels. The awards were held on January 24, 2024 at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.
This year, the Pharmapack Innovation Awards were judged with different criteria from previous editions – namely, the inclusion of sustainability considerations in all categories. This change marks an important shift in the weight ESG principles carry in pharmaceutical operations, something to continue into next editions of CPHI events.
With two categories encompassing Exhibitor Innovation and Health Product Innovation, this year’s Pharmapack Awards celebrate the pharmaceutical packaging and drug delivery sectors like none other!
Packaging Innovation
The Packaging Innovation award, which recognises advancements in primary, secondary, and tertiary pharmaceutical packaging, was awarded to Nissha Europe GmbH for their Pulp-Injection Autoinjector Component. As a device component, Pulp-Injection was developed to be suitable for most device components and secondary packaging, and for use in external autoinjector caps and closures with thread structures.
Highly Commended
The jury also recommended Coradin’s GREENIS dispenser for a high commendation with their intuitive dropper providing improved consumer ergonomics and distribution resistance for fluid-type skin care treatments.
Start-up Innovation
Pharmapack 2024 saw a record 20 start-ups participating in this year’s Start-Up Pitches. The jury thus saw fit to deliver a Start-up Innovation award in recognition of the companies at the very beginning of their innovative careers. This year’s Start-up Innovation award was bestowed to Capa Valve Ltd for their Capa Valve system that allows for the compartmentalisation of a standard syringe into a dual chamber device. Because of its installation in two parts, it is suitable for prefilled applications, the premixing of two liquids, the dispensing of two separate liquids, or the premixing of a liquid diluent and a solid drug.
Patient-centric Design
Dr Ferrer Biopharma’s GentleMist Technology was awarded the Patient-centric Design award for the revolutionary method of intranasal drug delivery, with enhanced comfort for targeted drug delivery. The nozzle utilises enhanced fluid dynamics to reduce pressure-associated discomfort when using a nasal spray.
Eco-design
For the Eco-design Award, Rotor Print’s Recyclable Stick was recognised for its focus on sustainable packaging that also prioritises barrier properties, good sealing properties, and good machine performance. The recyclable sticks provides a reliable packaging mono material to ensure recyclability of the product. While sustainability considerations were taken into account for each category, it is important to recognise innovative healthcare products leading the way in prioritising sustainability and ESG principles.
Highly Commended
The jury also highly commended Klim-Loc Medical’s medical vial and cap system packaged during the Fill and Finish process, delivered completely needleless. The reduction in needles allows for a decrease in packaging and waste, injury prevention, and fully recyclable vial systems.
Congratulations to all those nominated and to our award winners!
